Your pet made your home complete.
Your pet was your constant companion.
They were always the first to wake you up in the mornings, gently nudging you with their wet nose, and the first to greet you at the front door in the evenings.
In your darkest moments, they were there for you, sitting quietly by your side.
Unconditional love.
Grief is hard enough to begin with…
You know the prognosis was very poor, and there was little hope of saving your pet.
Whether it happened due to a tragic accident, a medical condition, or a careful and lovingly planned euthanasia at the vet’s office, it feels devastating all the same.
You believe you chose what was best, so why does this guilt and blame feel so heavy and overwhelming?
Not everyone understands how much pain you feel.
People don’t get it, and they are quick to judge.
You often hear things like, “It was just a dog,” “They lived a good life,” “Your pet is in a better place,” and “There are plenty of dogs that need a good home; you should go adopt one.”
Your pain is real. I will meet you with compassion and kindness, and you will not be judged.
You can heal, and therapy can help.
It’s possible to lean into the memories of the joyful times and not just those sad, last moments in which you were forced to make that painstaking decision.
It’s possible to trust yourself and your decisions, knowing that you did what you believed was the best and kindest thing for your beloved pet.
To help you lean into the joyful memories, trust yourself, and heal, I’ll use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help identify and challenge the unhelpful thinking patterns that have developed around this loss.
We will carefully talk through any negative thoughts about what happened and how it happened. Then, we’ll identify healthier ways of thinking that will replace the negative thoughts. And we’ll do it all while honoring your lost pet with love.
Find joy while honoring your lost pet.
Release yourself from guilt and blame.
Remember your pet with love and joy.
